WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team will host its fourth annual DODGE Melanoma Dodgeball Tournament on April 21 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. to raise money for melanoma research. The event will be held inside Reynolda Gym on campus and will be open to the entire Wake Forest community.
The disease struck close to home for the Demon Deacon field hockey program in 2006, when former standout Maria Whitehead, who helped lead the team to its first-ever ACC and NCAA championships in 2002, lost her battle with melanoma.
All proceeds will benefit the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and the entire campus community is encouraged to join in the fight against this prevalent and fatal disease. In addition, Triad Dermatology will have representatives present to provide skin cancer screenings free of charge for the entire duration of the event inside Reynolda Gym.
Information regarding registration for the tournament can be found by contacting event coordinator Jillian Anzalone at anzajm9@wfu.edu. Donations will be accepted both the day of the event as well as by mail. Checks should be made payable to the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest Baptist Health and be designated in the memo for the Stewart Program. The mailing address is as follows:
