WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's 2013 fall women's tennis recruiting class has been ranked as the eighth-best in the country by the Tennis Recruiting Network, making it one of the most highly touted incoming classes in school history.
Head coach Jeff Wyshner will add Samantha Asch, Kristina Centenari, Luisa Fernandez, and Kimmy Guerin to next year's lineup. Asch enrolled at Wake Forest in January and redshirted the 2013 season, while the other three players will join the team in the fall.
Guerin is rated as a blue chip recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network. Asch and Fernandez are both five-star recruits. It is the first time in over a decade that the Demon Deacons have brought in three blue chip or five star players in a single class.
"It is a real tribute to the years of hard work put in and the incredible success in juniors that our four incoming freshmen have had to now be recognized as a top ten recruiting class," said Wyshner. "While a top recruiting class doesn't guarantee us any wins, knowing that we are adding these players to a strong group of three sophomores from a class that was ranked top 25 last year, one junior and one senior makes me extremely excited about the prospects for this program next year and in the years to come."
Wake Forest's incoming recruits have been peaking this spring heading into their final summer before joining the Demon Deacons. Asch reached the final round of qualifying as an amateur at a $10,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Sumter, S.C. two weeks ago. Guerin is pursuing a fourth-consecutive Connecticut State Singles Championship and won her first two matches of the state tournament without dropping a game.
"It will now be up to all of us to work together over the next four years to make this incoming group not just highly regarded as freshmen but one of the most successful groups of seniors four years from now," said Wyshner. "These four players wouldn't be coming to Wake Forest if we weren't convinced that they have tremendous room to grow as players, so we are really excited to get started working with each of them this fall."
