Wake Forest Field Hockey Opens 2013 Preseason

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest field hockey began practice on Wednesday in preparations for the 2013 season.
Head coach Jen Averill begins her 22nd season as the head coach of the Demon Deacons and will open the season on Aug. 30 in Kentner Stadium at 7 p.m. against Miami (OH).
Wake Forest returns 11 starters from last season including two of the top scorers last year in Jess McFadyen and Taylor Rhea. McFadyen who started 19 games also registered eight goals and six assists. Rhea started in every game while also tallying eight goals including one game-winner.
All-ACC honoree and 2011 ACC Freshman of the Year, Anna Kozniuk will help lead the Deacs attack as last season she had five goals and nine assists. Other returners include Krysta Wangerin, Kari Walkley, Jess Newak, Molly Murphy, Tyra Clemmenson, Lauren Rogers, Christine Conroe, Kali Vicars and Madi Julius.
Valerie Dahmen who played in seven games as goalkeeper last season is joined by freshman goalkeeper Katie Osborne.
The Demon Deacons welcome 10 newcomers including graduate student Holly Brown who played for Loughborough University in England.
Wake Forest will head on the road following its home opener with Miami (OH) and take on Iowa and Michigan in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa beginning on Sept. 7.
