WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -The Wake Forest track & field team returned to action Saturday in the Wake Forest Invitational held at the JDL Fast Track. A solid performance by the Demon Deacons started off the New Year with several personal bests broken and first-place finishes achieved.
Men
Distance Medley Relay
The team of Simon Holden, Ryan Horgan, Kyle Eager and Jacob Poyner captured first place with a time of 10:16.45.
400 Meter Dash
Senior Malcolm Nunley placed 23rd with a time of 52.85. Freshmen Sam Beckerman placed 29th with a time of 53.36
200m Dash
Senior Michael Mastanduno placed 34th with a time of 23.52 and Sophomore William Ray placed 44th with a time of 24.68.
1 Mile Run
Sophomore Evan Little led the Deacons in the event with a first place finish (4:17.03) breaking his personal best record. Connor Crowley placed in third with a time of 4:23.61 also breaking his personal best record, and Garret Drogosch placed in sixth with a time of 4:27.80.
Weight Throw
Freshmen Charlie Ionata placed second with a throw of 16.91m, a personal best record. Freshmen Kyle Johnson placed third with a mark of 16.52m also a personal best record. Graduate student Teddy Mottola placed fifth with a mark of 15.93m, and senior Nate Wooten placed seventh with a throw of 14.45m.
Shot Put
Placing in first was sophomore Steve Michaelsen with a throw of 15.61m, a new personal best record.
High Jump
Sophomore Michael Rufrano placed fourth, in a four-way tie with a mark of 1.89m.
Pole Vault
Capturing a first place finish was freshmen Scott Marshall with a mark of 4.75m.
Long Jump
Senior Michael Mastanduno placed 11th with a mark of 6.41m.
Triple Jump
Sophomore William Ray placed in 10th with a mark of 12.97m.
Women
Distance Medley Relay
The team of Ashely Brubaker, Kendal Knous, Allison Johnson and Samantha Jones captured first place with a time of 12:06.65. The second team of Tessa Riley, Amy Collins, Marie Johnston and Kathryn Lazarchick followed right behind placing second with a time of 12:11.15.
60m Hurdles
Senior Erika Martin broke her personal best record placing in sixth with a time of 8.98.
3,000 Meter Run
Graduate student Kristin Weisse placed first with a time of 10:26.23. Freshmen Chandler Borton placed second with a time of 10:41.02.
800m Run
Junior Natalie Sukramani broke her personal best record placing third with a time of 2:20.49. Freshmen Alyssa Thompson placed 16th with a time of 2:29.95.
200m Dash
Mytoia Gathings placed 13th with a time of 25.97. Freshmen Jacquelyn Bedingham placed 45th with a time of 28.10. Senior Julie McCauley placed 46th with a time of 28.33.
4x400 Relay
Placing in eighth was the team of Montasia Golden, Amy Collins, Jacquelyn Bedingham and Allison Johnson with a time of 4:07.11.
Weight Throw
Freshmen Casidy Callahan threw for 17.29m, placing second in the event.
Shot Put
Freshman Casidy Callahan placed fourth with a throw of 13.13m, Erika Martin placed 27th with a throw of 9.14m and Amy Collins placed 32nd with a throw of 8.18m.
High Jump
Placing in second was junior Nyki Caldwell with a mark of 1.78m.
Pole Vault
Capturing a first place finish was sophomore Sydney White with a mark of 3.85m and freshmen Madison Bragg placed third with a mark of 3.55m.
Long Jump
Placing third was freshmen Alyssa Thompson with a mark of 5.75m. Senior Julie McCauley placed 23rd with a jump of 4.82m.
Triple Jump
Junior Montasia Golden placed third with a mark of 11.72m.
Wake Forest will travel next weekend to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the University of Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 17-18.
