Wake Forest Finishes Second at Blue Ridge Open

BOONE, N.C. - Jacob Poyner and Alexander Rose finished seventh and eighth, respectively, to lead Wake Forest to a second-place finish at the Blue Ridge Open on Friday.
Racing in their final meet prior to the ACC Championships, the Demon Deacons finished with 51 team points. High Point claimed the top spot for the team title with 29 points.
Poyner, a sophomore, finished the 6,400-meter course in 20:21.06 to pace the Deacons in seventh. Rose, a senior, was not far behind finishing in 20:40.17 for eighth.
Junior Kent Garrett placed 11th in 20:46.79, while senior Tommy Ross, who led the Deacons at last weekend's Royals Challenge, was 14th in 20:50.46.
Senior Connor Crowley rounded out the scoring five in 19th with a time of 20:54.41. Classmate Kyle Graves came in just two seconds after Crowley in 20:55.05 for 21st place.
Wake Forest will have next weekend off before competing at the ACC Championships on Oct. 31 in Earlysville, Va. The conference meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
