SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jazmen Russell recorded a match-high 17 kills, but the Wake Forest volleyball team fell to Syracuse 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Women's Building in ACC action.

In addition to Russell, Matalee Reed also added double digit kills with 10 for the Deacs. She also added three services aces.

With the loss, the Demon Deacons fall to 12-9 overall and 2-5 in the ACC. The Orange improve to 8-12 overall and earn their first conference victory of the season improving their ACC record to 1-7.

The Orange started strong with a 7-3 lead and Wake Forest responded with a 3-1 run to make it 8-6. The Demon Deacons then called a timeout when Syracuse gained a 13-8 advantage after a 5-2 run. The Deacs were forced to call another timeout after the Orange created some separation with a 17-11 lead. Wake Forest made a 5-2 run to cut into the Cuse lead 19-16, and the Orange called for time. The Deacs were able to bring the set within a point with the Orange leading 24-23, but a kill for Monika Salkute gave Syracuse a 1-0 lead in the match.

Syracuse took the early 7-4 lead in the set, but a 6-0 run by the Deacs gave them a 10-7 lead forcing the Orange to call a timeout. The hosts used a 4-0 run to retake the lead 11-10, but Wake Forest responded with a 4-1 run of their own to take the lead again 14-12. The Orange conducted a 6-0 run to take a 18-14 advantage. A 7-4 run closed out the set as Syracuse took the set 25-18 and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Reed started off the set strong out of the break with a kill and three consecutive service aces to give the Deacs a 4-0 lead. After holding a 7-3 lead, Syracuse went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. A 4-0 run gave the Demon Deacons a lead again 11-9, but the Orange brought the set within one at 13-12. After holding a one point lead for several more rallies, Syracuse retook the lead 21-19 late in the set. The Orange went on to close out the set 25-19 and clinching the 3-0 victory.

NOTES:
• Russell continues her stellar play as she recorded double-digit kills for the 10th consecutive match with 17 today.
• The four-match losing streak is the longest of the season for the Demon Deacons.
• Reed continued her effective attacking hitting .368 for the match. She finished second on the team with 10 total kills.
• Wake Forest is still winless against the Syracuse Orange. Today's meeting was the second all-time.
• Syracuse recorded the second lowest number of attack errors of any of Wake Forest's opponents this season with 10. The team to record the lowest Western Carolina with nine on Sept. 20, 2014.

UP NEXT:
• Wake Forest returns home to Reynolds Gym next weekend with two ACC matchups. The Deacs play the Miami Hurricanes on Friday at 6 p.m., and No. 4 Florida State on Sunday at noon.
