Deacons second at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team opened with an 2-under 286 and is in second place after the first round of The Landfall Tradition hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. Sophomore Sierra Sims is tied for fifth with a 3-under 69.
The Demon Deacons trail Purdue by three strokes in the team standings but finished the day ahead of two top-five teams. No. 1 South Carolina carded a 293 and No. 4 Duke posted a 291.
Sierra Sims finished the day with a 3-under 69 and is tied for fifth place with four other golfers. Sims is just three strokes behind the leader, Nanna Madsen from South Carolina. It is Sims' sixth round under par this season.
Seniors Allison Emrey and Marissa Dodd carded identical even-par scores of 72. Emrey and Dodd are tied for 21st in the individual standings. Emrey had four birdies on the day while Dodd birdied three holes.
Freshman Erica Herr shot a 1-over 73 and junior Mariana Sims carded a 2-over 74. Herr is tied for 28th and Mariana Sims is tied for 36th. Freshman Vinh-Hop Ngo competed as an individual and carded a 4-over 76.
The Deacs will tee off from hole one beginning at 10:09 a.m. for Saturday's second round. Wake Forest is paired with Purdue and Florida.
