Wake Forest Takes Fourth at Upstate Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Sophomore Kathryn Lazarchick finished 15th overall to lead Wake Forest to a fourth-place finish at the Upstate Invitational on Saturday morning.
Lazarchick finished the 5k course in 18:28.53 to lead six Demon Deacons who competed on Saturday. Wake Forest did not race its full lineup, resting a number of runners with meets scheduled on four consecutive weekends.
Sophomore Chandler Borton, a Winston-Salem product racing in her first collegiate meet, placed 23rd in 18:37.22.
Freshman Sarah Fahmy was the third Deacon across the line in 32nd with a time of 18:54.80, while sophomore Gabrielle Merritt was not far behind in 34th in 18:55.98.
Graduate student Tara Richardson, competing for the first time as a Deacon after transferring from Division II Western State Colorado University, completed the scoring five in 39th with a time of 19:06.18.
Junior Ashley Brubaker finished 51st in 19:21.15.
The Deacons finished with 123 team points to take fourth behind Georgia Tech (33), North Florida (42) and Appalachian State (55).
Wake Forest returns to action next weekend at the Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens University Charlotte on Oct. 11 in Charlotte, N.C.
