Wake Forest Hosts UNC Asheville in LJVM Classic >>
Wake Forest will open its 108th season of basketball on Friday, as the Deacons host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Classic.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum. The game will be broadcast online on ESPN3. It can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
Last Time Out >>
Wake Forest is coming off a 96-71 exhibition win over Young Harris last Friday in Winston-Salem.
Devin Thomas was perfect from the field, scoring 26 points on 12-of-12 shooting, also pulling down 11 boards for a double-double to go along with four blocks.
Codi Miller-McIntyre had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Madison Jones added 16 points, three assists and a pair of steals.
The Demon Deacons dominated in the paint, where they outscored the Mountain Lions 76-36.
Wake Forest Storylines >>
The Demon Deacons begin the Danny Manning era on Friday. Manning was the 2013-14 Conference USA Coach of the Year after leading Tulsa to the conference championship and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2003.
The Deacons return three starters off last year's squad, including leading scorer and assist man Codi Miller-McIntyre and leading rebounder Devin Thomas. Point guard Madison Jones, who led the team in steals last year, is the third returning starter.
Codi Miller-McIntyre returns after leading the team in both scoring and assists last season, becoming the first Deacon to accomplish the feat since Jeff Teague in 2008-09.
Series History >>
Wake Forest has won all seven previous meetings with UNC Asheville. The series dates back to the 1976-77 season, but the in-state rivals have not met on the hardwood since 2005-06.
The Deacons have won 55 straight home games against non-conference in-state opponents, which includes a perfect 48-0 record at the Coliseum.
Next Up... >>
Wake Forest will hit the road for a pair of games next week. The Deacons will play at Tulane on Monday, Nov. 17, and then at Arkansas on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The Tulane game is a return trip to New Orleans after the Deacons upended the Green Wave 72-57 last season in Winston-Salem.
The game at Arkansas begins the Roundball Classic, Wake Forest's exempt event for the season. The Deacons will host Iona, Nicholls State and Delaware State as part of the Roundball Classic event.
Wake Forest returns home on Friday, Nov. 21, against Iona to begin a stretch that sees the Deacons play five home games in a 12-day span.
