WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Four Wake Forest field hockey players were named to the 2014 Longstreth/NFCHA All-Region teams as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Monday.
Anna Kozniuk and Georgia Holland earned All-South Region First Team accolades while Christine Conroe and Jess Newak each were named to the All-South Region Second Team.
Kozniuk, a senior from North Vancouver, Canada, tallied 16 goals and six assists this season for a total of 38 points, which is a career-high, to earn her fourth-career All-South Region First Team honor. She was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year as the Demon Deacons won their fourth ACC title in program history. Her two goals and two assists during the championships earned her tournament MVP honors. A preseason All-ACC honoree, Kozniuk was named to the All-ACC First Team for the fourth straight season. She is the first Wake Forest field hockey player to be named four times and the 12th in the history of ACC field hockey to be a four-time honoree. Kozniuk was also selected to participate in the NFCHA Division I Senior Game.
In her only season as a Demon Deacon, Holland tabbed her first-career All-South Region First Team honor and second All-Region Team selection of her career. As a graduate student from Stony Brook, N.Y., Holland was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year for her outstanding play on the back line. She racked up three goals and an assist this season, including a goal in the ACC Championship game. She was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team for her efforts during Wake Forest's tournament run.
A redshirt senior from Greene, N.Y., Conroe picks up All-South Region Second Team accolades for the second time in her career. Conroe tallied four goals and a team-high nine assists this season and was also named to the All-ACC Second Team. Her best game this season was in a 4-3 victory at Virginia on Oct. 12, where she scored a hat trick and recorded an assist. She also scored the opening goal in the ACC Championship game against Syracuse.
Newak caps off her junior season by earning All-South Region Second Team honors for the first time in her career. The Mountain Top, Pa.-native had five goals and eight assists for a total of 18 points, which was enough for second on the team this season. During the ACC Championships, she scored a goal against Virginia and had an assist, earning her All-Tournament Team honors. Newak also tallied a game-winning goal this year on Sept. 11 in a 1-0 victory over Northwestern at Kentner Stadium.
Wake Forest finished the season 14-7 with a 3-3 record in the ACC and finished the 2014 season ranked No. 5 in the NFCHA poll. The Demon Deacons were the 2014 ACC Champions and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team ended their season falling in the first round to Albany on Saturday.
