PALOS VERDES, Calif. - Wake Forest freshman Sierra Sims carded a final round 73 and finished tied for 12th individually to lead the Demon Deacons to a ninth place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Tuesday.

The Deacons carded rounds of 295-301-298 to finish ninth in the strong 16-team field. This was Wake's best finish at the Northrop Grumman since tying for fourth in 2011.

"This was a good start for us," said Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey. "We beat a couple of teams ranked higher than us and yes, we would have liked to have had a little better round today but I saw a lot of good things this week. We know what we need to work on and we also know we can compete with the top teams."

Sims made one birdie and 14 pars in her round on Tuesday to finish with rounds of 69-76-73 (+5) and finished tied for 12th. The 69 was her lowest round of the year and the 12th place was her best finish of the season.

Palos Verdes, Calif., native Elizabeth Doty, who played as an individual this week, carded three consistent rounds of 74-72-74 to notch the first top-20 finish of her career. She finished in a tie for 18th.

Junior Allison Emrey carded a final round 76 and finished in a tie for 35th at 12-over par while sophomore Mariana Sims followed her opening round 71 with rounds of 75 and 82 to finish at 15-over.

Fellow junior Marissa Dodd was two shots behind Sims at 17-over after rounds of 78-78-74 and senior Olafia Kristinsdottir rebounded from an 81 on Monday to card a 75 on Tuesday and finish tied for 74th.

Southern Cal had a difficult round of 15-over 299 on Tuesday but a 5-under 279 in round two gave the Trojans enough of a cushion to hold-off Duke and win the team title at 14-over par. USC's Annie Park carded rounds of 67-67-73 to finish at 6-under par and claimed medalist honors. Park was the only player in the field under-par for the tournament.

Wake Forest will return to action on Friday, March 7, at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. This will be the third-straight season the Demon Deacons have competed in the event.
