Wake Forest will look for the season sweep of Tobacco Road rival North Carolina when the Demon Deacons take on the Tar Heels on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill.
Tip-off is scheduled for noon at the Smith Center. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network, online at theACC.com and on WatchESPN . It can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest is coming off a 71-60 loss at Maryland on Tuesday at the Comcast Center in College Park.
The Terrapins pulled away with an 8-0 run early in the second half after the Deacons had made their first five field goals of the period to cut the Maryland lead to 36-35.
Travis McKie led the Deacons with 16 points, moving past his former teammate C.J. Harris into 17th place on the Wake Forest career scoring charts. McKie also added three assists and two steals.
Devin Thomas scored 11 points and pulled down a game-leading 15 rebounds to post his fifth double-double of the season and the eighth of his career. Thomas also tied his season-high with three blocks.
Codi Miller-McIntyre added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go with six assists and two steals.
Wake Forest Storylines
This marks the first season since 2003-04 that Wake Forest will play each of its Big Four rivals twice.
Wake Forest and North Carolina are two of the top teams in the ACC at getting to the free throw line. The Deacons lead the ACC in free throw rate (49.6), while the Tar Heels are third (44.9). UNC has attempted 703 free throws and Wake Forest 696. The next-highest free throw attempt total is Pittsburgh's 645.
The ACC's active leading career scorer, senior Travis McKie scored his 1,600th career point last Saturday. McKie is eight rebounds shy of becoming the eighth all-time Deacon with 1,600 points and 800 rebounds.
Series History
North Carolina leads the all-time series with Wake Forest by a 155-66 margin following the Deacons' 73-67 win over the Tar Heels last month in Winston-Salem.
The in-state rivals have split their past 18 meetings since 2001-02.
In its 22nd all-time meeting since 1910, the Wake Forest-North Carolina series is the sixth-most frequent in ACC history.
Wake Forest and UNC are playing twice this year, marking just the third season in the past 10 that the rivals have played multiple times. The teams met at least twice a year every year from 1922-2004.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will return home to host Clemson on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Wake Forest will be looking to avenge last month's 61-53 loss at Clemson.
The Clemson game begins a three-game homestand for the Deacons, continuing with Boston College on Saturday, Mar. 1, and Duke on Wednesday, Mar. 5, for Wake Forest's Senior Night.
Wake Forest wraps up the regular season on Saturday, Mar. 8, at Miami for the Deacons' only meeting with the Hurricanes this season.
