CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina used hot 3-point shooting to take down Wake Forest 105-72 on Saturday afternoon at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Tar Heels (20-7, 10-4 ACC) entered the game shooting only 29.4 percent from beyond the arc in the ACC season but connected on 11 of their 15 attempts to win their ninth game in a row and avenge a loss to the Demon Deacons (14-13, 4-10 ACC) in Winston-Salem earlier in the season.

Coron Williams led the Demon Deacons with 19 points, his most at Wake Forest, on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting.

Tyler Cavanaugh tied a career-high with 15 points, and Devin Thomas joined him in double figures with 14 points in addition to pulling down five rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Aaron Rountree III saw a career-high 25 minutes of playing time, scoring a season-high seven points and handing out a career-high four assists.

Both teams shot well from the field. Wake Forest made 49.1 percent of its attempts while North Carolina shot 57.4 percent.

Leslie McDonald led six Tar Heels in double figures with 19 points.

The Deacons found success inside in the early going as two buckets by Devin Thomas and one by Arnaud William Adala Moto gave Wake Forest a 6-4 lead. Thomas picked up his first foul only two minutes in though, sending him to the bench, and the Tar Heels took advantage of his absence, exploding for a 7-0 run that gave them an 11-6 lead.

The tempo reached a frenetic pace midway through the period and when the dust had cleared after the track meet, the Deacons had cut the North Carolina lead to 13-9 on a 3-pointer by Coron Williams.

But the Tar Heels quickly regained the momentum with a 22-7 run, sparked by uncharacteristically hot 3-point shooting to build their advantage to 35-16 with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Wake Forest rattled off an 8-0 run early in the second half to cut the North Carolina lead to 58-45, but the Tar Heels quickly retook control to earn the victory.

Wake Forest will return home to host Clemson on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at LJVM Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on the ACC's Regional Sports Networks and can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
