Bojanowski Leads Deacons in Virginia Tech Elite Meet

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest track and field team performed well during the first day of competition at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet. Thomas Bojanwoski captured second in the 800m and Samantha Jones captured an eighth place finish in the one mile.
200m Open
Senior Mytoia Gathings placed 10th (25.01), senior Erika Martin placed 25th (26.19) and freshman Alyssa Thompson placed 13th (25.22). For the men, Michael Mastanduno placed 20th (22.90) with teammate Malcolm Nunley following right behind placing 21st (23.05).
800m
Freshman Kathryn Lazarchick led the Deacs placing in eighth (2:13.26), freshman Marie Johnston in 15th (2:17.77), sophomore Kendal Knous in 17th (2;19.07) and junior Natalie Sukramani in 18th (2:19.47). Thomas Bojanowski led the Deacs on the men's side placing in second with a time of 1:49.98, with Simon Holden placing third (1:51.20). Junior Kyle Eager placed fourth with a time of 1:52.13 and junior Kyle Graves placed 11th with a time of 1:55.62.
1 Mile
Sophomore Samantha Jones placed in eighth with a time of 4:56.40. Senior Alexander Rose placed seventh with a time of 4:05.69, freshman Jake Poyner placed 16th (4:13.42) and Evan Little placed 27th (4:17.66).
Pole Vault (unseeded)
Freshman Madison Bragg captured first place with a mark of 3.90m and sophomore Sydney White placed sixth with a mark of 3.30m. Sophomore Michael Cyphers placed second with a mark of 4.90m and fellow sophomore Alex Krall placed ninth with a mark of 4.35m.
Long Jump
Alyssa Thompson placed 11th with a time of 5.55m and Erika Martin placed 14th with a mark of 5.36m and senior Michael Mastanduno placed 13th with a mark of 6.63m.
Weight Throw
Freshman Casidy Callahan placed 14th with a throw of 17.05m. Charlie Ionata placed 13th with a mark of 17.13m, Teddy Mottola placed 15th (16.31m), Nate Wooten placed 16th (16.23m) and Kyle Johnson placed 17th (16.08m).
The second day of the Doc Hale Virginia Tech meet begins Saturday, Feb. 8 with the high jump at 11 a.m. and the 3,000m at 1 p.m.
