
Deacons Fall To Pitt In ACC Tournament Second Round

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest fell behind early and was never able to get back in the game as Pitt claimed an 84-55 victory Thursday afternoon in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
The Demon Deacons were coming off their best shooting game of the season in the win over Notre Dame on Wednesday but struggled all afternoon to find the range. Wake shot just 34 percent from the floor and was 4-of-18 from beyond the arc. Against the Irish, Wake shot 61 percent and was 7-of-10 from long range.
Graduate student Coron Williams once again led the Deacons with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting. This was his fifth-straight game scoring in double-figures and he was 16-of-27 from three-point range during that stretch.
Codi Miller-McIntyre also finished in double-figures for the Deacs with 10 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds.
Sophomore forward Devin Thomas battled foul trouble but notched eight points and six rebounds before fouling-out with 6:34 to play.
For Pitt, Lamar Patterson led the way with 24 points. Center Talib Zanna chipped-in with 17 points and pulled-down a game-high nine rebounds.
The Panthers also took advantage of the Demon Deacons' 14 turnovers and converted them into 21 points.
Key Sequence
Pitt got off to a great start and never looked back. The Panthers made eight of their first 13 shots (61.5 percent) and took a 17-6 lead just six and a half minutes into the game. The Demon Deacons weren't able to get any closer than eight the rest of the way.
By the Numbers
- After shooting a season-best 61 percent in the opening round win against Notre Dame, the Demon Deacons shot just 39 percent in the first half today and trailed 39-25. For the game, Wake Forest shot 34 percent and was 4-of-18 from long range.
- Senior Travis McKie made his 127th career start, tying Tim Duncan for the most career starts in Wake Forest history.
- McKie grabbed three rebounds today and is now 10th in school-history with 816 career boards. He moved past Darius Songaila's (1999-02) mark of 813.
- Coron Williams finished in double-figures for the fifth-straight game with a team-high 16 points. In those five games, Williams was 16-of-27 (59.3 percent) from three-point range.
- Pitt had 21 points off of Wake Forest's 14 turnovers.
