Deacs Post Strong Results in Second Day of CCU Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Kyle Graves, Thomas Bojanowski, Steve Michaelsen and Michael Cyphers all captured first place finishes in their respective events on Saturday as the Wake Forest track and field team wrapped up the second day of the CCU Invitational hosted by Coast Carolina University.
Graves captured first in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:35.80, Bojanowski in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:52.29, Michaelsen in the discus throw with a mark of 49.24m and Cyphers in the pole vault with a mark of 5.05m.
Men's 3,000m Run
Kyle Graves led the Deacs placing first with a time of 8:35.80 while Tom Finneran followed right behind placing second with a time of 8:40.67 and Billy Fayette secured a fourth place finish with a time of 8:53.19.
Women's 3,000m Run
Chandler Borton secured a second place finish with a time of 10:30.44.
Men's 1,500m Run
Senior Thomas Bojanowski placed first with a time of 3:52.29, Kyle Eager placed fifth (4:01.43) and Alex Giacco placed ninth (4:03.33).
Women's 1,500m Run
Ellie Abrahamson captured third (4:46.21) and Kathleen Darling placed 19th (4:56.91).
Men's 400m Run
Daniel Harrison placed fifth with a time of 48.65 and Brady Wilson placed 31st with a time of 51.66.
Women's 400m Run
Kendal Knous placed 12th (58.88) and Amy Collins placed 30th (1:01.99).
Men's 100m Dash
Sophomore Alexander Krall placed 45th with a time of 11.62.
Men's 800m Run
Sophomore Ryan Horgan placed ninth with a time of 1:58.55.
Women's 800m Run
Four Demon Deacons placed in the top 10 of the event, highlighted by Kendal Knous who placed second with a time of 2:15.20. Marie Johnston took third in 2:15.62 followed by Tessa Riley in fifth place (2:18.70) and Natalie Sukramani in seventh with a time of 2:19.40.
Men's 400m hurdles
Malcolm Nunley placed ninth with a time of 55.69.
Women's 400m hurdles
Senior Allison Johnson secured a third place finish with a time of 1:02.94.
Women's 200m dash
Freshman Alyssa Thompson led the Deacs placing in sixth with a time of 24.91. Senior Erika Martin placed 30th (26.06)and Hunter Roberts placed 40th (26.83).
Discus
Sophomore Steve Michaelsen captured a first place finish for the Deacs with a mark of 49.24m. For the women, freshman Casidy Callahan placed second with a mark of 45.03.
Women's High Jump
In the "A" flight of the high jump Nyki Caldwell led the Deacs placing in second with a mark of 1.70m and Amy Collins placed seventh with a mark of 1.60 in a three-way tie. In the "B" flight of the high jump freshman Alyssa Thompson placed fifth with a mark of 1.55m and senior Erika Martin placed tenth with a mark of 1.50 in a three-way tie.
Men's High Jump
Senior Michael Mastanduno placed in sixth with a jump of 1.95m in a five-way tie.
Men's Pole Vault
Michael Cyphers secured a first place finish with a mark of 5.05m and Alex Krall placed in ninth with a mark of 4.15m in a four-way tie.
The Demon Deacons will host the Wake Forest Open next weekend on March 21-22 at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
