GREENSBORO, N.C. - On a tough day for scoring, Wake Forest posted a final round 310 and finished third of 18 teams at the Bryan National Collegiate at Bryan Park.
This was the second-straight year that the Demon Deacons finished third at the BNC. Wake opened the event with a 305 and was in a tie for 14th place. But rounds of 290 and 310 allowed the co-hosts to rise 11 spots in the standings. Duke won the event for the eighth time with a final score of 882.
Individually, Wake Forest freshman Sierra Sims finished tied for 3rd at 4-over par. She came into the final round with the individual lead and birdied her first hole of the day but would finish with a 78. This was her best finish of the year and her first-career top-10.
Allison Emrey and Mariana Sims each finished in a tie for 23rd at 13-over par. On a day when the scoring average was over 80, Sims made four birdies and finished with a final round 76. Emrey had three birdies and carded a 78.
Senior Olafia Kristinsdottir finished the week tied for 42nd at 16-over while Marissa Dodd was a shot behind her at 17-over. Dodd had 13 pars on the day and finished with a 78.
Elizabeth Doty and Emily Wright both played as individuals this weekend and both played pretty well. Doty shot rounds of 76-73-80 and finished in a tie for 23rd while Wright also opened with rounds of 76-73 and would post an 82 on Sunday to finish tied for 33rd.
In the individual race, Duke's Celine Boutier was the only player in the field not to finish over-par as she carded rounds of 72-71-73=216 (E) and won the tournament by one shot.
The Demon Deacons will get right back to action next weekend at the Dallas Athletic Club Invitational in Dallas, Texas. The first round is set for Friday, April 4.
