WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest field hockey will play eight home games during the 2014 season, including hosting ACC newcomer Louisville, as announced by Head Coach Jennifer Averill on Tuesday morning.
The full 2014 slate includes seven teams which participated in the 2013 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament: Old Dominion, Duke, Liberty, North Carolina, Boston College, Virginia and Syracuse. The Demon Deacons defeated Old Dominion in a 3-2 thriller in the first round before falling 5-2 against the Tar Heels in the quarterfinals.
As always, Wake Forest will begin the season with the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, hosted this season at North Carolina's Francis E. Henry Stadium. The Deacs will take on Iowa in the season opener on Saturday, Aug. 30, before facing Michigan on Aug. 31.
In addition to Old Dominion and Liberty, Wake Forest will face Davidson (Sept. 7), Northwestern (Sept. 11), Richmond (Sept. 21), Appalachian State (Sept. 23), California (Sept. 28) and Pacific (Oct. 23) to round out its non-conference schedule. Against those eight opponents, the Demon Deacons are a combined 85-44-4 in school history.
The Deacs will open conference play against 2013 NCAA runner-up Duke at Kentner Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. That will be preceded by a neutral-site matchup between Northwestern and James Madison at 10:30 a.m. The Dukes will be in their first season under former Demon Deacon associate head coach Christy Morgan.
The 2014 ACC Championship will be played on Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium on the campus of Duke University beginning Wednesday, Nov. 5. Games will be contested on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday during the tournament.
Maryland's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex will be the host of the 2014 NCAA Semifinals and Final, set to be played on Nov. 21 and 23, respectively.
