Deacs Divide to Compete Across Nation This Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A select group of members of the Wake Forest track and field teams will compete in three meets this weekend at the season quickly approaches the Outdoor ACC Championships April 17-19 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Wake Forest will represent at the HPU Vertklasse Meeting this weekend in High Point, N.C on Friday-Saturday. Four student-athletes will head to Stanford, Calif. to race in the Stanford Invitational and three student-athletes will compete in the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
Stanford Invitational
The meet held in Stanford, Calif. will be held at Cobb Track and Angell Field and will feature several athletes in running events on Friday. Sophomore Samantha Jones and junior Kaitlyn Oliver will compete in the 5,000m run scheduled to begin at 7:07 p.m. Senior Alexander Rose will compete in the men's 5,000m scheduled to begin immediately after the women's 5,000m event. Senior Thomas Bojanowski will race in the men's 800m on Saturday at 2:57 p.m.
Florida Relays
The Floriday Relays will begin on Thursday at the Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Fla. Wake Forest will enter student-athletes in competition in events on Friday and Saturday. Junior Steve Michaelsen who has had an impressive outdoor season thus far will compete in the men's discus on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Freshman Charlie Ionata, who recently broke the Wake Forest school record in the hammer throw with a throw of 61.30m, will compete in the men's hammer throw inivitational on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. 2013 ACC Javelin Champion Jessie Merckle will compete in the women's javelin competition on Friday evening with the event scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Steve Michaelsen will compete in the men's shot put slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
Hight Point University VertKlasse Meeting
High Point University will host their annual VertKlasse Meeting April 4-5 at Dick Vert Stadium in High Point, North Carolina. Field events will begin on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with the women's javelin and running events will begin with the 3,000m steeplechase at 3:30 p.m. Field events will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with the men's hammer at the Wake Forest University throws field and the running events will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the 800m run participation heats.

Competing for the Deacs are Alex Giacco, Connor Crowley, Garret Drogosch, Evan Little and Kent Garrett.

Racing will be Billy Fayette.
Shot Put, High Jump & Discus
Sophomore Alexander Krall will compete.
Javelin
Sophomores Alexander Krall and Aiden McConnell will throw for the Deacs.
100m
Senior Michael Mastanduno is entered for Wake Forest.
400m
Freshman Brady Wilson will compete.
400m hurdles
Freshman Sam Beckerman and senior Malcolm Nunley will hurdle for the Deacs.
800m
Senior Kyle Eager and junior Kyle Graves are competing.
200m
Malcolm Nunley and Daniel Harrison will race.
4x400m Relay
Wake Forest will enter one team comprised of Kyle Graves, Brady Wilson, Ryan Horgan and Sam Beckerman.
Throw
Throwing for the Deacs are K.C. Barrett, Nate Wooten, Teddy Mottola and Kyle Johnson.
Long Jump
Jumping for the Deacs will be senior Michael Mastanduno.
Pole Vault
Vaulting for the Deacs are freshman Scott Marshall and sophomore Michael Cyphers.
High Jump
Sophomore Michael Rufrano will compete for the Deacs.
Women
1,500m
Competing for the Deacs are Kathryn Lazarchick, Kathleen Darling and Ellie Abrahamson.
5,000m
Running for the Deacs will be freshman Chandler Borton.
Shot Put
Freshmen Casidy Callahan, Amy Collins and Alyssa Thompson and senior Erika Martin will compete.
800m
Junior Natalie Sukramani will be running for Wake Forest.
100m hurdles
Competing are Alyssa Thompson, Erika Martin, Hunter Roberts, Amy Collins and Allison Johnson.
400m hurdles
Hurdling for the Deacs are freshmen Alyssa Thompson and Jacquelyn Bedingham.
800m
Tessa Riley, Marie Johnston, Kathryn Lazarchick and Kendal Knous will run for the Deacs.
4x400m Relay
Wake Forest will enter one team comprised of Marie Johnston, Tessa Riley, Kathryn Lazarchick and Kendal Knous.
Long Jump
Freshman Amy Collins will compete.
High Jump
Alyssa Thompson, Amy Collins and Nyki Caldwell will compete for the Deacs.
Triple Jump
Jumping for the Deacs is Phoebe Kershaw.
Pole Vault
Vaulting are Madison Bragg and Sydney White.
Discus
Freshman Casidy Callahan will throw for Wake Forest.
The Deacs will be back in action next weekend at the Joe Hilton Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
