CLE ELUM, Wash. - The Wake Forest women's golf team opened the NCAA West Regional with a round of 304 and is in 13th place.

The Demon Deacons are just four shots out of one of the eight qualifying spots. The top eight teams at the end of the 54-hole event with earn a trip to the NCAA Championship.

Junior Allison Emrey led the Deacs on Thursday with a 3-over 75. She made the turn in even-par and then made three bogeys and six pars coming home. She is tied for 35th with two rounds to go.

Freshman Sierra Sims and junior Marissa Dodd each opened with rounds of 4-over 76. Sims had a tough second nine after making three birdies and going out in 1-under 35. Dodd's round was opposite of Sims. She made back-to-back birdies early and then had an unfortunate 10 on the par-5 14th, her fifth hole of the day. That dropped her 4-over for the round and she then regrouped and played the final 13 holes at even-par.

Redshirt-freshman Elizabeth Doty carded nines of 38-39 for a first-round 77. She is in a tie for 62nd headed into Friday. Senior Olafia Kristinsdottir rounded out the Deacon-five with a round of 79.

Top-seeded Southern Cal was the only team to shoot under-par on the day and leads by four shots after a 4-under 284. Host Washington is second at even-par.

The Deacons will again be paired with Washington and Clemson for the second round which will start for the ground at 3:56 p.m. ET off the first tee. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final two rounds.
