GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman continued its domination of its home course, firing its third consecutive round of even par or better to claim top honors at the Furman Lady Paladin Invitational on Tuesday. Wake Forest was able to break free from a tie for second place with Texas Tech and finish alone in second. The Red Raiders finished third, a stroke back.
Furman fired a two-under 286 as a team on Tuesday to win the tournament with a three-day total of 860. Wake Forest finished at 18-over 882 for the three rounds to claim second. Texas Tech finished third at 883.
Wake Forest was led by Allison Emrey who shot a one-over 73 to finish at one-under 215, good for third place overall behind medalist Taylor Totland of Furman. Totland finished at 7-under 209. Sierra Sims finished fourth in the field at even par 216 after a closing 77 on Tuesday.
Emrey's 1-under par tournament total marked her best rounds as a collegian. She shot a 1-under 71 in a rain-shortened Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC in 2012. Sierra Sims' even par total for three rounds was also her best performance as a collegian.
The Demon Deacons' Erica Herr shot a one-over 73 on Tuesday, her best round of the tournament, to finish tied for 36th at 11-over 227. Marissa Dodd finished 41st at 228 after a 76 on Tuesday. Mariana Sims had a 79 on Tuesday to finish at 17-over 233.
The second place finish by Wake Forest is its best team finish since winning the Bryan National Collegiate in 2011.
