EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Led by senior Alexander Rose, Wake Forest finished ninth at the competitive Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday morning.
Rose led the Demon Deacons for the first time this season, finishing 32nd overall in 24:59.29 on the 8k course.
Junior Kent Garrett, who paced the Deacons in each of the first two meets of the year, was right behind in 34th in 25:01.92. Sophomore Jacob Poyner placed 39th in a time of 25:08.87.
As a team, Wake Forest finished with 228 points in a field of 12 teams all ranked within the top 15 in their respective regions.
Meet host Virginia, ranked No. 13 nationally, won the title with 47 points. Furman took second with 51 points, beating out No. 12-ranked Iona who had 54 points in third.
Seniors Connor Crowley and Kyle Graves rounded out the Deacons' scoring five. Crowley was 59th in 25:45.41, while Graves finished in 26:02.66 for 70th among 110 runners total.
Friday's meet served as a preview of the ACC Championships course. Virginia will host the conference meet in Earlysville on Oct. 31.
Wake Forest returns to action next weekend at the Upstate Invitational on Oct. 4 in Spartanburg, S.C.
