#61 Wake Forest Sweeps Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team swept their doubleheader with a 5-2 win over VCU and a 7-0 shutout of Elon on Saturday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Highlighting the day for the Deacons (7-2) was Kasey Gardiner and Luisa Fernandez as they both finished 4-0 for the day in singles and playing together at No. 1 doubles. Samantha Asch also had a solid day finishing 3-0 and picked up a win against a regionally-ranked singles player in Olga Barscheuskaya of VCU.
Karen Forman also picked up three wins today after reaching the 100 career wins mark last weekend. She now sits at 103 career wins, which is tied with Ryann Cutillo for 33rd all-time.
Wake Forest returns to action on Friday at 4 p.m. when they host LSU at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
No. 61 Wake Forest Topples VCU, 5-2
Kasey Gardiner clinched the victory on court five as the Demon Deacons opened the doubleheader with a 5-2 win over VCU.
Gardiner had a 6-1, 7-5 win against Ana Batiri at the No. 5 singles when Wake Forest had a 3-0 lead to clinch the victory for the Deacons. Both Karen Forman and Sam Asch won their singles matches before Gardiner clinched the win. Forman defeated Alzbeta Veverkova 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Asch won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
At the fourth position, Luisa Fernandez grabbed Wake Forest's fifth and final point with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Darya Berezhnaya of the Rams. Fernandez improved her dual match singles record to 5-0 with the win.
In doubles play, Wake Forest won on courts one and three to take the 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Forman and Xue Zhang defeated Batiri and Veverkova 6-3 at the third position. Gardiner and Fernandez clinched the point defeating Barscheuskaya and Kvitashvili, 6-4 at the first position. The match on court two went unfinished once the point was clinched.

No. 61 Deacons Complete Doubleheader with Shutout
The Demon Deacons cruised to a 7-0 victory over Elon to close out the doubleheader on Saturday. Xue Zhang's 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Kirsten Ward clinched the victory for the Deacs.
Kasey Gardiner and Karen Forman picked up wins on courts five and six to set up Zhang for the clinching point. Gardiner defeated Kamilla Beisenova 6-0, 6-1 to give Wake Forest a 2-0 lead after the doubles point, and Forman topped Maria Camara Ruiz 6-1, 6-3 on court six to make it 3-0.
After Zhang's match clinching victory, Kimmy Guerin, Sam Asch, and Luisa Fernandez picked up wins to complete the shutout. Fernandez finished a perfect 4-0 for the day after picking up the wins.
The Deacons clinched the doubles point with victories on the top two courts. Asch and Guerin picked up the first win with a 6-0 shutout win against Lazarova and Camara Ruiz, and Fernandez and Gardiner clinched the point with a 6-3 win against Lucas and Ward on the top court.
