Hamby Leads Wake Forest Past Boston College 69-53

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest won a game in the ACC Tournament for the seventh-consecutive season with a 69-53 victory over Boston College on Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Demon Deacons advance to the second round of the championship to face No. 5-seed Syracuse on Thursday at 11 a.m.
The Demon Deacons avenged a one-point regular season loss to Boston College with a 69-53 win in the opening game of the 2015 ACC Championship. Senior Dearica Hamby led the Deacs with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. Freshman Amber Campbell added 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.
After a quiet opening 10 minutes Hamby took control of the game and rattled off 12 straight Wake Forest points to give the Demon Deacons a 27-20 lead with 5:48 remaining in the first half. Boston College responded with a 10-2 run to take a 30-29 lead on an Ashley Kelsick layup with 3:41 on the clock.
In the final 1:35 of the half Wake Forest went on a 7-0 run to take a 38-32 lead in to the locker room. With one second left in the half Campbell grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on the putback to give the Deacs the six-point advantage.
Boston College opened the second half with a 9-2 scoring burst to go up 41-40 with 15:41 remaining in the game. It was the final lead of the game for the Eagles as Wake Forest outscored them 14-4 over the next six and a half minutes. It was an Amber Campbell layup with 8:25 remaining that gave Wake Forest its first double-digit lead of the game, 55-45.
The Eagles made one last push, cutting the lead to seven, 57-50, on a Martina Mosetti three pointer. Kelila Atkinson responded with a three pointer of her own on the next possession to halt the BC run and fuel Wake Forest to a 69-53 victory.
Milan Quinn finished the game with six points and seven rebounds. Kandice Ball chipped in eight points and seven rebounds. Atkinson and Millesa Calicott each scored nine points.
NOTES:
The Demon Deacons are the only team in the conference that has won an ACC Tournament game each of the last seven seasons.
Dearica Hamby led the Deacs with 23 points. She has scored at least 20 points in 15 games this season.
Wake Forest held a 38-25 advantage on the boards and outscored BC 34-18 in the paint.
