HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Wake Forest carded a second round 293 and climbed up six spots to seventh place in the team standings at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Saturday.

The Demon Deacons opened the tournament with a round of 303 and are now 28-over par through 36 holes. Wake Forest moved from 13th to seventh place on Saturday. Duke leads the tournament at 8-over 576.

"The team played much better today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "Everyone hit a lot of good shots to some very tucked pins. We made more putts and learned a lot from yesterday's play. We are looking forward to tomorrow and a solid finish. It was great to see Allison and Sierra back on their games and Mariana made an impressive comeback from yesterday's round. We are close to having everyone go low."

The No. 12-ranked Demon Deacons were led by Allison Emrey on Saturday. The senior carded a 1-under 70 on Saturday to move in to a tie for 17th. She shaved seven strokes off her opening-round 77.

Sierra Sims also showed a big improvement on Saturday. After carding a round of 77 on Friday she followed up with a 1-over 72 on Saturday. For the second consecutive round she had two birdies.

After leading Wake Forest with a 1-over 72 in the first round of the tournament, Marissa Dodd turned in a round of 76 on Saturday to move her just outside the top 20. She is tied for 21st with a two-round score of 148.

Mariana Sims made the biggest adjustment on the team with an 11-stroke improvement. She rebounded from an 86 yesterday to card a 75 on Saturday. The junior had two birdies on the day and struggled on just one hole with a triple bogey on 17.

Vinh-Hop Ngo was the fourth Demon Deacon to shoot lower in the second round with a one stroke improvement. Ngo finished the day 5-over with a 76.

Duke's Leona Maguire carded a 65 and set the competitive course record for women at the Long Cove Club and took over the individual lead at 4-under for the tournament.
