WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest track and field teams are set to compete in two meets in their third weekend of the outdoor season. The teams will compete in the Florida Relays and the High Point Vertklasse Meeting.
At this point of the season, the individuals will continue to improve their times to qualify for conference championships and the NCAA meets.
The throwers will be competing at the Florida Relays this weekend. "We are very excited to compete at the 2015 Florida Relays as it will give us a great opportunity to mix it up with some of the best athletes in the entire country," said throws coach Zeb Sion. "Jessie Merckle and Charlie Ionata will be competing for the 2nd time in Gainesville while John Maurins, Max Adams, Kyle Johnson, and Casidy Callahan will be making their Florida Relays debut."
Charlie Ionata set a school record last weekend at the Raleigh Relays and will look to continue to improve his mark to qualify for post-season. Jessie Merckle, also a school record holder, will try to improve her mark this weekend. Merckle heads down to Florida to improve her mark in the javelin that currently ranks eighth in the NCAA.
"While it is very early in the 2015 season, we have already had some good performances that we hope to build on this weekend," explained Sion.
The majority of the Deacons will be competing in the High Point Vertklasse Meeting this weekend. Sydney White will compete in the pole vault as she continues to work on reaching All-American status like last season. Fellow school record holders, Nyki Caldwell and Michael Cyphers, will also be competing in High Point this weekend.
Many of the runners competing for the Deacs will be looking to improve their times as they try to qualify for post-season competition.
You can follow the Deacons this weekend with live results. High Point University will also provide live video on the Big South Network of the High Point Verklasse Meeting. Below is the starting list for all Wake Forest participants.
