LUBBOCK, Texas - Wake Forest sophomore Will Craig collected another honor on Tuesday, as he was named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list, which honors the nation's top player both on the mound and at the plate.
At the plate, Craig is putting together one of the best offensive seasons in the nation.
The Johnson City, Tennessee native leads the nation with 54 RBIs, and ranks in the top 20 in slugging, total bases, home runs, runs, on-base percentage, doubles, batting average, hits and walks.
He currently ranks atop the ACC with a .401 batting average, 17 doubles and 12 longballs in addition to RBIs. He also leads all Olerud Award watch list candidates in each of those categories.
On the mound, he has earned a spot in Wake Forest's weekend rotation. He's made 11 total apperances and four starts, striking out 22 batters in 28.0 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .250 average.
Craig is one of 36 student-athletes up for the honor, including one of seven from the ACC.
The award is named for the former Washington State standout, a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s, and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame's Night of Champions celebration, June 28-29 in Lubbock.
