Deacons Fall to UNCG on Walkoff

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG came out on top of a back-and-forth battle over Wake Forest, 9-8, with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning at the UNCG Baseball Stadium on Wednesday night.
Will Craig crushed his 12th homer of the season - the 20th of his career, to lead the Demon Deacon (21-14) offense, also walking three times.
Justin Yurchak and Jonathan Pryor also reached base four times apiece. Pryor went 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored Yurchak finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and pair of walks.
Paul Kirkpatrick and Donnie Sellers were stellar in relief. They combined for 5.0 innings, allowing one unearned run with no walks and three strikeouts.
Tied at 5-5, the Demon Deacons plated three sixth-inning runs on a Joey Rodriguez RBI single, Nate Mondou sacrifice fly and three wild pitches to bring Rodriguez in.
Collin Woody hit a two-run blast in the bottom half of the inning to cut the margin to 8-7 for UNCG (14-15).
After Sellers worked two scoreless innings, Aaron Wright led off the bottom of the ninth against John McCarren with a solo bomb over the center-field wall to make the score 8-8.
Eric Kalbfleisch singled, and pinch runner Nick Chapman advanced to second on a wild pitch. He came around to score on Tyler Long's walkoff single, as the throw home from left field was off target.
Keaton Haack and Bryant Stafford combined to retire the last seven Demon Deacons to bat. Stafford (1-1) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Demon Deacons are back in action this weekend, traveling to Pittsburgh from Friday-Sunday.
