WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest Tennis Complex has been selected as one of four host sites for the Mid-Atlantic Region ITA Summer Circuit, the ITA announced Friday. The complex will host action during the fourth week of competition from July 24-27.
The ITA Summer Circuit is made up of nine regional circuits consisting of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Indiana, in August. The other three host schools in the Mid-Atlantic region are Mary Washington, Virginia Tech and Charlotte. Registration for the Wake Forest portion of the competition is July 20.
Nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in ITA Summer Circuit events since it began in 1993. The circuit provides college (and junior and alumni) players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round. Although the primary focus of the circuit is to provide incoming freshmen and collegiate players the chance to compete in summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events within the ITA Summer Circuits are categorized as "open"; therefore anyone is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member.
The men's and women's singles and doubles champions at the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships receive a wild card into the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships. The men's and women's singles and doubles finalists will receive a wild card into the ITA All-American Championships qualifying draw. Players receiving wild cards must be current NCAA Division I student-athletes and must meet all eligibility criteria.
