Deacons Finish Strong at Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. - The Wake Forest track and field team competed at the Georgia Invitational on Saturday to close out the outdoor regular season at the Spec Towns Track. Charlie Ionata highlighted the day for the Demon Deacons setting a school record in the men's hammer throw.
Ionata tosses a distance of 64.14m (210-5), which surpassed his previous school record of 63.88m (209-7) that he also set at the same track at the Spec Towns Invitational earlier this season.
In addition to Ionata on the men's side, Max Adams turned in two strong performances in the discus and the shot put. He set two new personal records with a distance of 53.28m (174-10) in the discus and 16.52m (54-2.5) in the shot put. John Maurins took fifth place in the shot put with a distance of 18.23m (59-9.75).
In the running events, Simon Holden flew down the track for a second place finish and a personal best time of 1:48.36 in the 800m. He was just two seconds off the school record time. Thomas Ross also earned a top-five finish taking fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase.
On the women's side, Kathryn Lazarchick led the way with a fourth place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:10.40. Cate Allen also ran the 800m and set a new personal record time.
In addition, Kathleen Darling finished fourth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:36.99, a new personal best. Others that earned top-five finishes include Katie Adair and Sydney White in the women's pole vault. Adair took a second place finish, while White finished fifth.
Wake Forest will head to Tallahassee, Fla. next week to compete in the 2015 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships that begins Thursday, May 14, and ends on Saturday, May 16.
