WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team was picked to finish fifth in the annual preseason ACC coaches' poll and junior Emily Conroe was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, the league announced Tuesday.
The Demon Deacons were picked to finish fifth for the second-straight season. Last year Wake Forest won the ACC Tournament after the leagues head coaches predicted a fifth-place finish.
Conroe, a junior midfielder, was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team. In 2014 she started all 21 matches and scored three goals with two assists.
Wake Forest finished the 2014 season with a 14-7 overall record and ended the year ranked No. 5. The Deacs won their fourth ACC Tournament Championship and Jennifer Averill was named the ACC Coach of the Year.
The Demon Deacons open the 2015 season at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this weekend. Wake Forest will play Iowa on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and Michigan on Sunday at 2 p.m. Wake Forest will host Ohio State on Sept. 4 in the home opener.
