GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest's Jule Grashoff and Valerie Dahmen have been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Grashoff assisted both goals in Wake Forest's 2-1 win at No. 4 Duke on Friday to open ACC play, snapping a four-game losing streak against the Blue Devils. On Sunday against Richmond, the freshman forward from Bermen, Germany, scored two goals, including the game-winner. She tallied the first goal of the game in the sixth minute and then started the four-goal run in the second half with a goal in the 46th minute in a 6-1 victory.
Grashoff is tied for the team lead with four goals this weekend. She is second on the team with 11 points.
Dahmen made seven saves, including six in the second half, to anchor the defense in the win at the fourth-ranked Blue Devils. Duke maintained pressure on Dahmen throughout the last five minutes of regulation but she prevented them from tying the game. The senior goalkeeper from Duisburg, Germany, followed up with four saves in the team's win over Richmond.
Dahmen leads the ACC and is fifth in the NCAA with a .846 save percentage. She also leads the league with 5.5 saves per game.
With the wins over No. 4 Duke and Richmond last weekend the Demon Deacons extended their win streak to five games. It is the longest win streak for Wake Forest since 2011 when the Deacs won eight in a row. The win also helped Wake Forest move up four spots in the NFHCA to No. 8.
Wake Forest hosts a pair of top-15 teams this weekend at Kentner Stadium. The Deacs welcome No. 15 Old Dominion at 6 p.m. on Friday and No. 13 Liberty at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
