Deacs Fall to Cats Late in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wake Forest fell to Northwestern, 65-58, Monday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Demon Deacons received double-doubles from John Collins and Konstantinos Mitoglou but were unable to overcome a cold night of shooting.

Wake Forest (5-2) struggled from the field, shooting a season-low 31.1 percent (19-of-61), while also recording a season-high 19 turnovers.

Collins recorded his second double-double in as many games as he ended the night with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. For the sophomore, it was his third double-double of the season.

Mitoglou recorded his first double-double of the season and fifth of his career as he finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Keyshawn Woods added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench for the Deacs, who were unable to sneak past the Cats (5-2).

The two teams were tied with 3:24 remaining following a pair of free throws from Woods. The points from the charity stripe capped off a 6-2 run for the Deacs after Northwestern had built its lead up to four midway through the second half.

Northwestern answered with a three-point play from Bryant McIntosh, who led all scorers with 23 points, after he was fouled driving to the basket. McIntosh extended the Wildcats' lead to five with a jumper shortly after.

The Deacs trimmed the deficit to three on two separate occasions down the stretch but two baskets in the closing seconds sealed Northwestern's victory.

It was a closely contested game between the Demon Deacons and Wildcats, who met for the first time ever, as neither team led by more than eight points in the game. The Deacs built an its eight-point lead midway through the first following a 10-0 run.

The Demon Deacons return to action this Saturday, Dec. 3, as Wake Forest travels to take on Richmond. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
