Five Deacons Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five members of the Wake Forest field hockey team were named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference office on Monday. Representing the Demon Deacons on the list were Valerie Dahmen, Jule Grashoff , Megan Anderson, Emily Conroe and Jessy Silfer.
In her fourth season in Old Gold and Black, Dahmen earned the honor for the second time. She was also an all-conference academic selection as a junior when she helped lead the Deacons to their first ACC championship since 2006.
Dahmen, the Demon Deacons' lone two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree this season, was a NFHCA All-America Third Team and All-South Region First Team goalkeeper as a senior. Hailing from Duisburg, Germany, she fished the season with 1,338 minutes played, making 103 saves and posting a .757 save percentage. Her 5.42 saves per game slotted her second in the conference. Dahmen is a politics and international affairs major.
Grashoff, who joined her teammate, Anderson, as two of the four freshman selections on the list, led the Deacs with 13 goals and finished second on the team with 31 points in her first year. She notched the game-winning tally in a 2-1 win over No. 8 Louisville and also potted goals in the team's final three games against No. 15 Boston University, No. 11 Boston College and No. 10 Michigan. A native of Bremen, Germany, Grashoff has yet to decide on a major.
Anderson, a midfielder out of Melbourne, Australia started all 19 games at in her freshman season. She tied for second on the team with eight assists, including a helper in the Deacs' NCAA Tournament contest against Michigan. She also chipped in two goals, both of which proved to be game-winners, against Ohio State and Davidson. She is undecided on a major.
In starting all 19 of Wake Forest's games as a junior, Conroe scored a goal in the team's win over No. 3 North Carolina and led the Demon Deacons with 10 assists. The midfielder came up big in Wake Forest's win at eight-ranked Louisville, setting up both of the team's goals in the 2-1 victory. A native of Greene, N.Y., Conroe is majoring in history.
Silfer, a mainstay in Wake Forest's midfield and on defense, started in all of the team's games in 2015 after transferring from Iowa. The junior from Cazenovia, N.Y. finished the season with one goal and two assists and also took 25 corners for the Demon Deacons. Silfer's major is health and exercise science.
All seven ACC schools that compete in field hockey were represented on the All-ACC Academic Team. Duke redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing was named the 2015 ACC Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season were also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
