CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte's Brett Netzer hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth as the 49ers took down Wake Forest, 7-6, at Hayes Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Demon Deacons (12-7) jumped out to leads of 4-1 and 6-4, but the 49ers (9-8) battled back each time before Netzer hit his first-career longball on a two-out, two-strike pitch.

Wake Forest totaled 12 hits, but went just 3-for-19 with runners in scoring position, including 0-for-8 in the final four innings. The Deacs left 13 runners on base, compared to seven for the 49ers.

Stuart Fairchild led the Deacs offensively, going 3-for-5 with a triple and run scored. Logan Harvey went 2-for-2 with two walks and his first collegiate RBI, while Gavin Sheets was 2-for-5 with an RBI and pair of runs scored.

Wake Forest had to go to the bullpen in the first inning for the second straight day after starter Christian Bartholomew felt tightness in his elbow.

Holding a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth, Kevin Conway and Nate Mondou reached base to start the inning, before Charlotte struck out three straight to get out of the inning.

After the 49ers scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it, Johnny Aiello was hit by a pitch to start the inning and sacrificed to second by Harvey, but a groundout and strikeout ended the threat.

In the eighth, Fairchild hit a two-out triple but the next pitch was an inning-ending groundout.

Aiello and Harvey each reached base with one out in the ninth, but Charlotte escaped once again, recording a strikeout and flyout.

Chris Farish pitches 2.0 scoreless innings in relief for Wake Forest, while Donnie Sellers retired the first five batters he faced before the ninth-inning homer.

For Charlotte, Austin Wynn, Jacob Craver and Brandon Vogler combined for 3.0 scoreless innings to end the game, with Vogler earning the victory.

Wake Forest hits the road again for the first time in ACC play this weekend, traveling to No. 10 Virginia for a three-game series Friday-Sunday.
