Wake Forest Earns NFHCA Academic Honors

WINSTON-SAELM, N.C. – The Wake Forest field hockey team received three academic honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) this week, the organization announced.
As a team, the Demon Deacons were named a 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award winner. Additionally, the Deacons had 11 student-athletes named to the ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad and saw junior Jessy Silfer collect a ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction plaudit.
The National Academic Team Award honors institutions that have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Five other ACC teams joined Wake Forest in earning the distinction.
Ten Deacs joined Silfer in receiving NFHCA National Academic Squad recognition, which is given to student-athletes who have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Emily Adamson, Megan Anderson, Veerle Bos, Taylor Brennan, Lindsay Graham, Jule Grashoff, Meghan, Murphy, Katie Osborne, Sarah Thornhill and Heather Wiley were also listed.
Silfer was one of 80 student-athletes nationally to be named a Scholar of Distinction by registering a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.
Wake Forest capped its 2015 season with an overall record of 13-6. They went on to make their third-straight and 15th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
