Deacons Set For Trips to Syracuse, Boston College
• No. 19-ranked Wake Forest will travel north to take on No. 40 Syracuse and No. 55 Boston College this weekend.
• The Deacs will face the Orange on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, N.Y. and will take on the Eagles on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at the Dedham Health and Athletic Club in Dedham, Mass.
• Sunday's match was originally scheduled to be played at noon in Chestnut Hill.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest had its four-match winning streak snapped last Sunday with a 6-1 home loss to No. 10-ranked Duke. The Deacs topped Pittsburgh, 5-2, last Friday.
• With Joanna Zalewski out of the lineup, Luisa Fernandez earned the Deacs' lone point with a straight-set win over No. 78 Ellyse Hamlin at No. 5 singles. Wake Forest dropped the doubles point, but saw Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko down No. 14 Beatrice Capra and Hamlin, 6-3, at No. 1 for their second ranked win of the season.
• Guerin topped No. 85 Audrey Ann Blakely of Pitt for her fifth ranked win of the spring.
Deacs in the Rankings
• Wake Forest's 16-5 start with a 6-5 mark against ranked teams has the Deacs ranked No. 19 after starting the season at No. 71. They climbed as high as No. 14 (last week) to join the top 15 for the first time since April of 2007.
• Kimmy Guerin and Emma Davis are both nationally ranked in singles. After moving as high as No. 50, Guerin is ranked 84th. Davis made a return to the rankings last week at No. 112. Guerin is 14-6 on the spring with wins over five ranked opponents, while Davis is 14-7 with three triumphs against ranked foes, including a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of No. 53 Monica Robinson of Notre Dame, the highest nationally-ranked win of her career.
ACC Honors
• Anna Ulyashchenko earned ACC Co-Player of the Week honors last week after for her efforts in wins against No. 38 Notre Dame, No. 10 Virginia and East Carolina. She was the first Wake Forest freshman since Ashlee Davis in 2004 to win the award.
• Kimmy Guerin earned the same honor for the second time in her career on Feb. 16.
Racking Up Wins
• Wake Forest has 16 wins for the 15th time in program history, but for the first time since 2002. The Demon Deacons' five ACC wins are their most since 2007.
• The Demon Deacons started the season 9-0, marking the best start in program history. They passed their previous team record of seven-straight wins to start a season set in 2014.
100-Win Club
• With her singles victory against Virginia on March 20, Samantha Asch became the 39th player in program history to reach 100-career wins in singles and doubles combined.
• Asch became the fifth current Demon Deacon to reach the milestone, joining Kimmy Guerin, Kasey Gardiner, Xue Zhang and Luisa Fernandez.
Up Next
• To close out its home schedule, Wake Forest will face Miami on April 8 and Florida State on April 10. The Deacs' regular season will end on April 15 at NC State.
• The ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. will be held from April 20-24.
