RALEIGH, N.C. –
The 27th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 38 North Carolina State in its regular-season finale at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday.

The Demon Deacons will head into postseason play with an 18-8 overall record and finish the regular season with a 7-7 mark in the ACC.

The Wolfpack started the match by claiming the doubles point. Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta doubled up No. 53 Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko, 6-3, at No. 1 before Bianca Moldovan and Joanna Nalborska clinched the competition by winning, 6-4, in the second spot to clinch the 1-0 lead for the hosts.

Samantha Asch helped the Deacons respond quickly to tie the dual with a 6-1, 6-0 dispatching of Amanda Rebol at the fifth position, but NC State jumped in front, 3-1, by earning straight-set wins at Nos. 3 and 6.

Looking to keep her team in the match, Joanna Zalewski held off Claudia Wiktorin for a 6-4 second-set win after dropping the opening frame by the same score to force a decisive final set at No. 4. In the third set, Zalewski cruised to a 6-0 win to help Wake Forest draw within one team point.

NC State, however, was able to close out a pair of three-set decisions in the top two positions to pick up the victory.

Guerin battled back after a defeat in the opening set against the No. 51-ranked Frantova at No. 1, but the Wolfpack junior jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set en route to a 6-3 win. Nalborska rallied to top Emma Davis, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 to make it a 5-2 final.

Zalewski's win in singles was her team-leading 29th of 2015-16. She also leads the Deacs in victories in dual-match play with a 21-4 record on the spring.

The Deacons are now 8-8 against ranked opponents and 7-5 in road matches. All but two of their contests away from home have been against teams ranked in the top 70.

Wake Forest will begin postseason play next week at the ACC Tournament at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Play at the event will run from Wednesday through Sunday.
