The Match-Up

Wake Forest Storylines
• Wake Forest is coming off a series victory over No. 4-ranked Florida State. The Demon Deacons earned a 9-0 win on Friday and 4-2 victory on Sunday, defeating the Seminoles in a series for the first time since 2002.
• Parker Dunshee set the tone on Friday, tossing 7.0 shutout frames and allowing just two hits. He was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the first Deacon to receive that honor since 2013.
• The Demon Deacons are 17-5 when scoring at least six runs this season, and 16-5 when playing at David F. Couch Ballpark.
• Will Craig was recently named a first team Midseason All-American by D1Baseball and Perfect Game. He ranks in the top 30 nationally in average, RBIs, doubles, home runs, slugging and on-base percentage.
• Among active Division I players, Craig ranks fourth in career on-base percentage (.460), fifth in slugging percentage (.632), sixth in home runs (31), 11th in RBIs (139) and 13th in hitting (.355).
• Gavin Sheets has posted seven multi-hit games during his active nine-game hitting streak, increasing his batting average to .324.
• By winning his 183rd game at Wake Forest on Sunday, head coach Tom Walter tied John Caddell (1926-39) for third-most wins all-time at the helm of the Deacons.
The Opposition & Series History
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series against Appalachian State, 37-14, and has claimed four of the past five meetings.
• In Boone last year, the Demon Deacons trailed 8-4 heading into the eighth inning. Wake Forest plated seven runs in the eighth, including a go-ahead three run triple from Will Craig, to pull ahead for good.
• Stuart Fairchild, Gavin Sheets and Jonathan Pryor combined for seven hits, a walk and three RBIs, while Connor Johnstone pitched the ninth to record his first-career save.
• While the Mountaineers enter with just a 10-26 overall record, they are coming off their best weekend of the year. Appalachian State took two out of three games from No. 23-ranked South Alabama at home, with each win coming by a 4-3 margin.
• The teams will also meet next Tuesday, April 26, squaring off in Charlotte at BB&T Ballpark.
