GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest women's tennis junior Kimmy Guerin has been named Second Team All-ACC, the conference office announced Thursday morning. The all-conference selection is the second of the Weston, Conn. native's career.
Guerin, who was named a Third Team All-ACC performer as a sophomore in 2015, has helped lead the Demon Deacons to their best season in the last decade. Entering the postseason with a national singles ranking of No. 64, Guerin is 16-9 in singles in dual-match play, including a 15-9 mark at the top spot in the lineup with eight wins over ranked opponents.
She climbed as high as 44th in the national singles rankings, a career-best.
In addition to her singles success, Guerin is 12-11 in doubles on the spring with all but one match coming at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Paired with freshman Anna Ulyashchenko, she has defeated three ranked tandems and has reached as high at No. 45 in the national doubles rankings.
By opening 2016 with nine-straight singles wins, including eight victories in the top flight, Guerin guided the Deacs to their first 9-0 start in program history. On Feb. 16, Guerin won the ACC Player of the Week, becoming the first Deacon since 2004 to win the award more than once in her career—she also won it once as a sophomore.
Guerin is the 17th Wake Forest women's tennis player to earn multiple all-league accolades. Martina Pavelec was the last Deac to accomplish the feat, doing so in 2010 and 2011.
Demon Deacons finished 7-7 in the ACC, slotting them in a tie for seventh place, their best finish since 2007. Wake Forest's 18 overall wins are its most since 2002.
After receiving a first-round bye, the No. 28-ranked and eighth-seeded Deacons open the ACC Championships on Thursday morning against Virginia Tech at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
