The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will send competitors to two different meets for the second-consecutive week beginning on Friday. The Demon Deacons will take part in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. and the Elon Invitational in Elon, N.C. this week.
The Virginia Challenge will be held Friday and Saturday at the University of Virginia's Lannigan Field, while the Elon Invitational will be on Saturday at Elon University's Irwin Belk Track and Dr. Alan and Norma White Field Complex.
A total of 40 Demon Deacons will compete in 24 different events in Virginia, while a smaller contingent of Deacs will appear at Elon.
Last week, Wake Forest sent student-athletes to four different meets, three of which were in California.
The teams tallied eight event titles at Campbell Invitational. Alva Hicks won the hammer throw with a school-record 54.66m toss. Both the men's and women's squads had second-place team finishes at the meet.
Highlighting the Deacs that traveled west was Kathryn Lazarchick, who won the 1,500m dash at the Mt. SAC Relays with a personal-record time of 4:21.53. That time also ranks her eighth in school history.
Following this week, the Deacons resume the spring season on May 7 at the Appalachian State Invitational. That meet will be the conclusion of their regular season.
