BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team posted a fourth place finish at the 19th annual Bryan National Collegiate, an event it co-hosts with UNC Greensboro at the Bryan Park Champions Course. The Demon Deacons ended the tournament at 37-over to record their second straight top-four finish of the spring.
Virginia repeated as champion of the event, posting a score of 24-over. South Carolina was runner-up ay 30-over, followed by Florida State at 32-over and the Demon Deacons. The tournament featured 15 teams, including 10 ranked in the national top 50.
"I think our students are beginning to play a lot better and they are getting comfortable playing in tough conditions, like we had today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "They are understanding how to hang in there and have confidence to make shots. We still need to work on short game and putting, but I am really excited about our trend. It is the second straight tournament we were fourth and we beat six teams this week ranked ahead of us. So hopefully that moves our ranking up this week. Our team is playing at a level where they should be playing, and that is exciting as we head into the ACC Tournament."
Wake Forest was led by Jennifer Kupcho, who finished T-2nd at 5-over after a final round 76. It was her career-best finish and the third top-five finish of her freshman season.
Erica Herr had the best round of the day for the Deacs, posting a 3-over round of 75. She finished T-15th at 10-over for the tournament. Antonia Eberhard finished T-21st at 11-over for the event after a final round 76. Ines Laklalech had a final round 79 to round out the scoring four for Wake Forest on Sunday.
The Demon Deacons return to action April 15-17 for the ACC Championship, held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
