CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Wake Forest battled back from an early 4-1 deficit, scoring seven straight runs in an 8-6 victory over Boston College at Pellagrini Diamond on Friday evening.
Nate Mondou sparked the Demon Deacon (28-17, 11-11 ACC) offense with a career-high five hits, along with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, as Wake Forest won its seventh straight game and snapped Boston College's (25-18, 9-14 ACC) four-game winning streak.
Will Craig added three RBIs, and was hit by two pitches. Wake Forest was hit by seven pitches, three off the NCAA record, including two by Joey Rodriguez and Jonathan Pryor and another by Johnny Aiello.
Ben Breazeale added two hits and two walks, while Aiello had two hits and two runs scored. Stuart Fairchild was walked three times and recorded a sac fly.
On the mound, Parker Dunshee (7-3) settled in after a rough first inning. After the Eagles plated three in the opening frame, he allowed just one unearned run the rest of the way, finishing with six strikeouts in 5.0 frames.
Donnie Sellers and Craig each tossed 2.0 innings of one-run ball to seal the win, with Craig striking out three as he recorded his sixth save.
Wake Forest scored seven of its eight runs with two outs. Trailing 4-3 in the sixth, after the first two Deacs struck out, Rodriguez walked, Mondou singled and Fairchild walked to set up a go-ahead two-run single from Craig.
The first two Deacs were again retired in the seventh. Then, Aiello singled, Pryor and Rodriguez were hit by pitches, and Mondou drilled a two-run single. After Fairchild drew a walk to load the bases, Craig was hit by a pitch to bring in a run.
Boston College stranded seven runners over the final three innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the ninth after two walks and an error, as Craig forced an inning-ending flyout.
With the win, Wake Forest surpasses its 2015 win total in eight less games.
With rain in the forecast for Sunday, the Deacons and Eagles will now square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
