WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Head coach Jennifer Averill and the Wake Forest field hockey program unveiled the team's 2016 schedule on Friday afternoon. The Demon Deacons will host a pair of exhibition contests before beginning its 18-game regular-season schedule in August.
Ten of the Deacs' regular-season games are at home. Seven opponents on the schedule appeared in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
After taking on James Madison in exhibition play on both August 19 and 20, the Deacons will kick off their regular season by hosting the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Kentner Stadium. The Deacs will play Iowa on August 27 and will take on Michigan the following day. North Carolina will also play the Wolverines and Hawkeyes in Winston-Salem.
Wake Forest opens the month of September with games against Ohio State and Indiana in Columbus, Ohio before kicking off ACC action on the road against defending conference tournament champion North Carolina on Sept. 10.
Following their trip to Chapel Hill, the Demon Deacons will play four-straight games at home, including a meeting with 2015 NCAA champion Syracuse on Sept. 18. The Deacons will also have a three-game homestand to start October when they clash with Penn State, Ohio and Duke.
The regular season will come to a close on Oct. 30 when the Deacs travel to Liberty.
Information on the 2016 ACC Championships will be released in the coming weeks. Old Dominion's L.R. Hill Sports Complex will host the 2016 NCAA Tournament semifinals and final, slated to be played on Nov. 18 and 20, respectively.
