WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest graduated seniors Aaron Fossas and Garrett Kelly inked contracts with Major League Baseball teams and will begin their professional careers.
Fossas signed a free agent deal with the Cincinnati Reds, while Kelly joines the Minnesota Twins organization.
"We're thrilled that these two seniors who have worked so hard and done so much for this program are getting an opportunity to pursue their dreams," head coach Tom Walter said. "I remain hopeful that Kevin Conway and Joey Rodriguez will get a similar chance."
Fossas, a redshirt senior pitcher, is still recovering from Tommy John surgery undergone in March of 2015. He ranks in the top 10 in program history with 12 career saves, in addition to a 7-2 career record. He made 10 appearances in 2016, including three starts.
Kelly, a senior pitcher, had a much-improved 2016 campaign. In his second season as a full-time pitcher and after battling injuries in 2015, Kelly posted a 1-2 record and 4.86 ERA in 2016. He struck out 41 batters in 33.1 innings, allowing opponents to hit just .217 against him.
This brings the total of Demon Deacons to be drafted or signed this year to six. Will Craig and Nate Mondou have signed professional deals after being selected in the draft, while Parker Dunshee and Chris Farish have until July 15 to sign a deal or they'll return to school.
