
Campbell Joins 1,000 Point Club as Deacs Defeat Clemson

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Amber Campbell recorded her 1,000th career point Thursday evening inside the LJVM Coliseum, as Wake Forest defeated Clemson, 68-56, to collect its first ACC victory of the season.
Campbell hit a deep 3-pointer to with 1:10 remaining in the first half to become the 24th Demon Deacon to reach the 1,000-point milestone. She joins current head coach Jen Hoover and video coordinator Lakevia Boykin in the club.
Campbell finished the night with 18 points and five steals while Elisa Penna fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Ariel Stephenson totaled 16 points and Milan Quinn had 10 to round out the Deacs in double figures.
Alex Sharp finished with a career-high six assists and Stephenson added five as Wake Forest tallied 14 assists total as a team.
The Deacs (10-6, 1-2 ACC) got off to a hot start and gained a 9-0 advantage to force the Tigers (11-6, 0-4 ACC) into a timeout. Wake Forest continued to build its lead through aggressive defense, recording four steals and eight points off Clemson's seven turnovers, and lead 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. The offense picked up in the second quarter as the Deacs shot 66.7 percent (8-of-12) to build a 20-point lead with 1:10 remaining in the half. The Tigers would go on a 6-0 run to end the quarter but the Deacs took a 14-point advantage into the locker room at halftime, 39-25.
Wake Forest's hot shooting in the second quarter helped the team shoot 52.8 percent from the field Thursday, its second highest shooting percentage of the season.
Wake Forest pushed its lead to 19 early in the third quarter but Clemson would go on to outscore the Deacs 15-11 in the third quarter to cut the lead down to 10, 50-40. The Tigers continued to fight and pulled the score to within five with 7:40 remaining in the contest. The Deacs, however, closed out the Tigers in the final minutes to secure its first ACC win, 68-56.
The Demon Deacons hit the road to take on Virginia Tech on Monday, Jan. 16. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
