ITA Kickoff Weekend
• The Demon Deacons are set to face off against No. 19 LSU on Saturday, Jan. 28 for their first match at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. On Sunday, Jan. 29, the Demon Deacs will face either Virginia or Ole Miss, depending on the outcome of Saturday.
• In the 2014-2015 season Wake Forest beat LSU 4-3. The Deacs also beat Virginia in a dual match, 4-3, during the 2015-2016 season.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest travelled to Knoxville, Tennessee to play a pair of dual matches against Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State. The Deacons lost their morning session 4-1 to Tennessee and came out victorious against MTSU, 4-0.
The Captains
• Wake Forest's three seniors - Samantha Asch, Luisa Fernandez and Kimmy Guerin - will serve as the team captains in 2017.
Meet the Rookies
• Wake Forest is welcoming a pair of freshmen to the roster for the 2016-17 season in Chandler Carter and Alexis Franco.
• Carter is a five-star recruit out of Dallas, Texas, and was ranked the No. 31 recruit in her class. After claiming multiple state titles, she picked Wake Forest over offers from Texas, TCU and Davidson. In the fall season, Carter recorded a team-high eight wins with an 8-5 record.
• Franco also joins the Deacs as a five-star recruit, coming to Winston-Salem from Largo, Florida. She finished her high school career as the No. 40 recruit, but was rated as high as No. 22 in the nation. The No. 8 recruit from Florida also received offers from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Michigan and Michigan State.
Deacs in the Rankings
• This year, the ITA cut down its national team rankings from 75 to 25 teams. After finishing the 2016 season ranked No. 29, the Deacons are one of four teams receiving votes just outside the top 25 this year.
• Kimmy Guerin is rated the No. 33 player in the nation by the ITA, the highest in her career. She is the highest ranked Deacon since Martina Pavelec was No. 24 on March 29, 2011. • Emma Davis also earns a career-best ranking of No. 61 in the country. Wake Forest has two players ranked in the top 75 since 2007.
Up Next
• Wake Forest will continue to stay on the road as the Demon Deacons travel to New Haven, Connecticut to face off against Yale on Feb. 3.
