WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team fell to Liberty, 79-66, Tuesday evening at the LJVM Coliseum.
Bryant Crawford recorded a team-high 21 points, his 17th career 20-point game. Crawford has the longest active streak in ACC with 27 straight double-figure games and is now just 13 points away from hitting the 1,000-point milestone.
Doral Moore recorded 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting and was one rebound shy of a double-double with a career-high nine rebounds. Keyshawn Woods also recorded 14 points for the Demon Deacons.
Moore opened the scoring on the Deacons' first possession off an alley-oop from Crawford. However, the opening minutes quickly turned into a back-and-forth game, with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage, until back-to-back triples from Liberty's Lovell Cabbil gave the Flames a 14-8 lead with just over twelve minutes to go. The Deacs fought back and eventually used a pair of Crawford free throws to regain the lead. From there, the teams once again traded baskets until Liberty used a 10-0 run to close out the half and enter the break with a 34-25 lead.
Liberty extended its lead to 12 early in the second half but the Deacons used two minutes and a 9-0 run to cut the Flames' lead to just three at 41-38, forcing Liberty into a timeout. However, the Flames took advantage of a Deacon scoring drought and used a 10-0 run of their own to build their lead back up to 13 with eight minutes left in the contest. Once again, the Deacs chipped away at the lead, bringing the score within six with under five minutes to go, but the Flames' lead was too much to overcome as Wake Forest fell, 79-66.
Olivier Sarr made his Demon Deacon debut after missing the opener against Georgia Southern with an injury. Sunday Okeke also made his collegiate debut, scoring his first career basket.
Entering tonight's contest, the Deacs had won their last 10 games against Big South foes, dating back to a 2010-11 loss to Presbyterian.
Up next, the Demon Deacons travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for the 2017 Paradise Jam. The Deacs will play Drake in the first round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 p.m.
