WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Two-time NCAA field hockey champion Jamie Whitten Montgomery will join the field hockey staff as an assistant coach, head coach Jennifer Averill announced Monday, Feb. 20.
"On behalf of the entire squad and coaching staff I want to welcome Jamie W. Montgomery back to Wake Forest," said Averill. "Jamie returns to Wake with a champions mind and heart. She embodies the spirit of Wake hockey and will be a tremendous mentor to the players. Her standard for excellence both as a former collegiate great, national team player and coach will be a huge asset to our program. I have no doubt that all of us will benefit greatly from her infectious attitude and passion for the game and coaching."
Montgomery played field hockey for the Demon Deacons from 2003-06 where she was a member of two national championship teams and two ACC title squads. She was a four-year starter on defense and was awarded All-ACC, NCAA All-Tournament and Second Team All-American honors while at Wake Forest.
"I am absolutely thrilled and honored to join the Wake hockey coaching staff," said Montgomery. "For me, Wake Forest represents the best blend of academics and athletics and I am really looking forward to helping current Demon Deacons be their best."
While in college, she was a member of the United States Women's Field Hockey Junior National Team from 2004-06 where she competed in the 2004 4-Nation Tournament, 2005 World Cup and the 2005 Junior Pan American Games.
After she graduated with a degree in English and sociology in 2007, Montgomery was a graduate assistant at Temple where she earned a master's degree in education in 2009. From 2008-09, she also competed as a member of the United States Women's Field Hockey Senior Developmental Team.
Montgomery joined the Bucknell coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2009 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2013. While she was there, the Bison went to four-straight Patriot League Tournaments.
In 2013, Montgomery was then selected to join the U.S. Women's National Squad with fellow Demon Deacons Lauren Crandall and Michelle Kasold.
Montgomery will take over for former assistant coach Barb Weinberg, who took the head coach position at UMass.
