WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team earned its first No. 1 ranking in program history on Tuesday, as the ITA released its updated Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I National Team Rankings.

The Demon Deacons earn the No. 1 ranking behind the strength of a 13-1 record and a 9-1 mark against ranked opponents this season. Currently on a five-match winning streak with all five victories coming against the ranked foes, the Deacs ascended to the top spot thanks to a pair of ACC victories this past weekend. Wake Forest, then ranked No. 2 in the country, defeated No. 5 North Carolina on Friday, March 10 before topping No. 43 Duke on Sunday.

Wake Forest entered the spring season ranked second nationally, which at the time was the highest ranking in program history. The Deacs maintained their No. 2 ranking for most of the spring season before becoming the third team to hold the top spot this season, joining Ohio State and Virginia who are ranked second and third, respectively, in this week's poll.

The Deacs currently have four individuals ranked in the ITA's singles rankings, as Petros Chrysochos (No. 2), Skander Mansouri (No. 5) and Christian Seraphim (No. 37) have been in the rankings since the start of the season. Freshman Borna Gojo earned his first ever ranking, entering the polls at No. 76 on March 7. Mansouri and Seraphim also team up to form the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the country.

Wake Forest takes it No. 1 ranking on the road this week, as the Deacs take on No. 12 Georgia on Friday, March 17. First serve in Athens, the site of the 2017 NCAA Championships, is set for 3 p.m.
